The West Florida Seminary, founded in 1851, began operating in 1857, only twelve years after Florida achieved statehood. It was located on the hill where the Westcott Building now stands, which has been the site of an institution of higher education longer than any other site in Florida.
FSU's main campus is located in Tallahassee. There are also satellite campuses located in Panama City and Sarasota, Florida; College of Medicine campuses throughout the state; and international study centers in the Republic of Panama, London, Italy, and Spain.
In 1857, it was taken over by the State as one of the seminaries, as a result of an attempt made by the city, under the leadership of Mayor Francis Eppes. In 1858, the school absorbed the Tallahassee Female Academy, founded in 1843, and became a co-educational institute.
It then remained as the West Florida Seminary, until the state legislature added the military section and changed its name to The Florida Military and Collegiate Institute in 1863. In 1901, the school was renamed Florida State College and became a four-year institution with four departments such as the School for Teachers, the School of Music, and the College Academy.

There is a barrage of cheap and inferior Florida University flags being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons.
