Advancing your knowledge on crane safety raises the prospects of employment. NCCCO certification comes with the necessary skills to increase the possibility of gaining employment in the general and construction industry. There are different areas of target depending on the types of machines used. Operators require training in different areas according to the needs in their environment.

Safety is given a lot of emphasis during training to ensure that the equipment, personnel and goods being handled are safe at all times. Other employees within the environs will have their safety guaranteed. Creating awareness about the level of risk means that the supervisor or operator will take necessary steps. Safer working environments are more productive and profitable.

The course targets persons operating tower, mobile, service and boom trucks or cranes. Operators of articulate, overhead and digger derrick models are also targeted for training. The lifting environment also involves inspectors, riggers, signal officers and directors. There are special modules for this class of workers.

Candidates are required to complete the core and specialization examination in order to qualify for certification. The core paper contains 90 multiple answer questions which should be completed in one and a half hours. The areas covered in the examination are general safety and operations of conventional crane models and lifting equipment.

Specialty examination is administered over 60 minutes. The student is required to answer 26 questions, each of which has multiple choices. The areas of specialization include operation of telescopic as well as lattice boom cranes. The safety requirements and attention for each model varies. Other models targeted during training include telescopic, swing and crawler cranes.

Before certification, the student must undergo practical tests in the core and specialization areas. The tests cover swing and fixed crane models. No certificate is issued without passing both the practical and written examinations. The certificate issued remains valid for five years after which it has to be renewed. Students obtain materials for use in preparing for exams from training institutions and exam centers.

The duration for completion of both examinations is twelve months. The rule is that the examination on specialization should be completed within 12 months of finalizing the core. The core paper determines whether you qualify for the certificate or not. There are other exams that you may sit for within the twelve months for inclusion into the certificate.

The NCCCO statutes have set a criterion for awarding certificates beyond completing the examinations. The candidate must be 18 years or more. There is a medical test to ascertain physical fitness and preparedness for the work. Other tests involve verification of drug and substance abuse.

All operators must obey a set code of ethics to qualify. The package on code of conduct includes passing all examinations within the period stipulated. Certified operators ensure safety of any work environment which reduces production and operation cost.

Every candidate seeking a certificate must undergo medical and physical examination. The physical examination form should not be older than three months. The form issued by the Department of Transport is used to substitute privately acquired forms. Such a form should not be older than two years.
