School Children Make Better Progress In Online Advanced Academics

Many schoolchildren in the sixth grade through the twelfth grade are benefiting by taking advanced academics in classes presented on the internet. This online opportunity is based in Miami Florida. It is a part of the curriculum offered by the Miami Dade County Public Schools. Two campuses that are run by the Florida International University are responsible for these courses.

It first came into being in 2009 and is fully accredited. Students who are accepted into the system do not pay tuition or purchase textbooks. Free bus transportation is provided for those times when attendance is required, which is rarely

Each participant is an academically talented eleventh or twelfth grade student who was adverse to learning in a traditional classroom. There is no preference given. Once a student meets the required criteria, he is placed on a list and accepted in the order in which he applied.

Three college level courses are to be completed each semester. Four high school level courses are included. This is geared towards students who are capable of working at an accelerated speed. A hundred students are accepted from the list of qualified applicants. First come, first served and therefore, early application is suggested.

Parental involvement is mandatory and tutoring is available when needed. The road to college following the secondary education is made smooth by this mode of learning. Popularity led to the opening of a second chapter on another college campus.

Most students are Hispanic, with eight percent Asian and five percent black. Only one percent are Caucasian. The National Honor Society, A. A. A. Mentors Club and other agencies are connected to this program.

In the year 2000, another program like this was started to work with schools on a national level. Now students in other locations are learning online. They are also in the sixth to twelfth grade of school. Qualified teachers and online support is making the program a success.

There is yet another such program based in Oklahoma City that has a record of success in providing online learning solutions. They utilize a proprietary technological platform that is uniquely planned for grades six through twelve. The goal of any online method of education is to facilitate achievement in reaching the students goals.

This new innovation is now responsible for the education of more than sixty-thousand students. They are in a hundred schools over twenty states. The virtual school is firmly entrenched as a successful branch of the educational systems across the country. A student uncomfortable in the class can flourish in the home.

There is no in-person bullying when a student learns online. Students who have experienced peer pressure, and other intimidating roadblocks to learning are eliminated. There may be cyberbullying online. However, it cannot be facilitated in a school that uses a VPN or virtual privacy network that only the students and instructors have access to.

Parents see the value of a free online educational program. The child will have accredited classes and individual one-on-one online interaction with teachers and tutors. A 24 hour seven days a week support system is available. Advanced academics provides the incentive and interest in learning that benefits every student who participates.
