Whether you're a recent high school graduate or are thinking about returning to school, there are many things to consider. Congratulations! You've accomplished a big milestone in your life. However, you still have some things to get done, such as finding a job or going to college. Not all schools are the same, the college you pick might hurt your future. Look for a school where you feel comfortable. Once you've made your decision, then you can work out the financing side. You never want the price to determine your school of choice. There are many different financial services and scholarships that can fill any gaps in your college budget. Delay participating in student government until your second year in college. The voice and opinions of freshmen aren't as influential as those of upperclassmen. Your first year is also the perfect time to get to know yourself and your strengths a little more.

This is especially important if you have several classes back-to-back and don't have time to eat. Being hydrated helps you to think clearly and learn more efficiently. You can even refill your bottle at a water fountain.

There is often no need to buy textbooks new and at full price. Look for the best deals you can find. School books are expensive and new ones can cost a small fortune. Used text books will save you a great deal of cash. If you are hesitating to choose a major, take a few classes in different areas of study. This way, you can take the time necessary to identify your interests. When you are ready to choose, you'll have the credits you need for that major, plus the minors as well.

The last thing that you want to do is take too many difficult classes at the same time. You can easily get burnt out. Instead, select a maximum of two difficult classes and choose easier options for your other classes.

Instead of selecting classes that are known to be "easy," choose those that are challenging and interesting. Challenge yourself and you will reap the rewards. You are sure to gain more knowledge from tough courses, and you might make connections that will benefit you later on. Are you interested in playing sports in college? Consider making a call to the college and speaking to the coach of the particular sport you play. When you let them know you're coming, they'll be ready for you. If you do well enough, you may even be able earn a scholarship, which can keep your expenses down. Do not purchase your books until your classes start. You may figure out later that the books aren't even required. Since you don't know what the situation is until you actually go to class, it is best to wait to buy. Going to lectures and reading the online material will be enough to pass the class.

In most cases, it will be necessary for you to take some general electives that have nothing to do with your your specific degree scope. Don't neglect them since these grades are involved in your GPA. When you are preparing for college, create a list of the items you need. Being prepared will make your experience much easier. This is beneficial if you are traveling a long distance to your college.

Ask any roommates to work with your plans. If they can find other things to do while you wine and dine your date, you can do the same for them. Only bring what you need to your dorm. You will find that you have very little space for your stuff in a dorm room. Draft a list that includes basic items and keep to it as you shop. Think about purchasing items that can double as storage options.

Join many activities to stay very social in college. A variety of activities shows that you have varied interests. This looks good on graduate school applications and your resume. You do need to make sure your grades do not suffer. So don't overdo it, and leave time for studying. Birds of a feather flock together. It will be easier to remain focused on your work if your friends are serious about their studies too. You will still have fun with your friends. Look for people who have a healthy balance in their life. Always know how to get a hold of the police on campus. You can call campus security if you need a ride home, if someone is bothering you or if you are hurt. You may never need to use this number, but it is important to know it just in case.
